The National Women’s Soccer League goalkeeper said “I do” to fiancé Chris Mirabelli at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia on Dec. 15.

The pair’s winter wedding ceremony featured a classic romantic theme with white, gold and red throughout the formal decor.

Murphy says she “loved” the open back of her of gown, which featured delicate lace and beading detail.

For dessert, they cut into a 4-tier cake, decorated with florals, plus a cookie and milk cart which delivered sweet treats to each table.

Later the pair shared their first dance to an acoustic version of Ben Platt’s “Imagine” before dancing the night away with a DJ and saxophone player.

The couple first met while they were both students at Rutgers University.

“Chris and I were two of the most successful athletes at Rutgers and both were representing team USA at the time,” she recalls.

“Chris came up to me at a party on my 21st birthday and challenged me to a penalty kick shootout where if he scored more than four goals I would have to take him out to dinner, and if not, he would have to take me out to dinner.”

“I distinctly remember showing up to the field early to warm up and Chris arriving jokingly with all his USA gear on. He scored four goals and he took me out to dinner the next day.”

Mirabelli popped the question to Murphy, but not before he had to switch up his original proposal plans.

“Chris spent three months meticulously planning his proposal to me after one of my NWSL games in New Jersey in front of my family,” says Murphy.

“The week of the game we were walking our dog and I randomly said to Chris, ‘I would hate to have a public proposal’ and eventually also said “I hope it doesn’t have anything to do with soccer, my whole life is already soccer.'”

At the time, Murphy had no idea that Mirabelli already had a full plan in motion.

“Without me knowing Chris cancelled all his original plans and managed to pull off a whole new proposal plan in the same week. This time he made it more private, just the two of us, just as I wanted it.”

Now as the couple reflects on their special day, Murphy says it was exactly what they wanted. “An epic holiday party filled with close family and friends.”
