An Oregon woman has been found guilty except for insanity afterpushing a 3-year-old girl onto train trackson Dec. 28, 2022.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Officeannounced in a press release on Wednesdaythat Brianna Lace Workman was convicted of one count of attempted assault in the first degree, one count of assault in the third degree, one count of interfering with public transportation, one count of disorderly conduct in the second degree, and one count of recklessly endangering another person.

According toOregon’s state website, the Psychiatric Security Review Board’s statutory functions include accepting jurisdiction over guilty except for insanity individuals, balancing the public’s concern for safety with the rights of their clients, and monitoring their progress.
The press release said that “the victim and her family” were present at the sentencing and “look forward to their continued healing.”
“Multnomah County Deputy District Attorneys Sean Hughey and Julian Samuels prosecuted this case. Prosecutors thank the MCSO Transit Deputies who worked on this case,” the release added.
The incident occurred at the Gateway Transit Center MAX platform in Northeast Portland, Oregon. At the time of the incident, Workman was listed as homeless and living in Portland, according toThe Oregonian.
The district attorney’s office obtained TriMet video surveillance footage that showed Workman getting up from a bench and pushing the young girl onto the train tracks as she stood with her mother waiting for a train.

According to aprevious news release, the child “landed face-first onto the metal rail and rocks before being quickly rescued from the train tracks.” After the incident, the 3-year-old had “a small red mark on their forehead” and a “severe headache,” per the news release.
