There ’s a spiral galaxy located 200 million light year from here that ’s not doing so well . See those intense blue streaks streaming away from it ? Those are live young stars that are being charge away from the galaxy by its surroundings as it moves through blank space .
This extraordinary young image was snap by the Hubble Space Telescope . The wandflower , called ESO 137 - 001 , is framed against a lustrous background signal as it moves through the centre of a galaxy clustering named Abell 3627 . This clump is violently ripping the spiral ’s content out into mystifying space , leaving the bright blue streaks .
It ’s an effect do by a process called ram pressure strip . It ’s a retarding force force felt by an objective as it act through a fluid . It ’s like assay to walk as fast as you could in a syndicate of water . In this case , the fluid is a superheated gasolene , which tends to settle at the centers ofgalactic clusters . finally , the process will leave this galaxy with very little of the cold gas that ’s substantive for star organization — rendering it incapable of forming unexampled stars . So this galaxy is expire , and it will eventually whither away once its current hardening of maven all die out .

A spectacular guess of one of the densest star clusters ever discovered
The process is also stimulate the curved appearing of the disc of gas and debris , a resultant role of the forces exert by the het gas . The clump is bending ESO 137 - 001 , but the galaxy ’s gravitational wrench is strong enough to hold on to the majority of its dust , though some can brown streaks of dust are seeable .
A combined image showing a mammoth gun flow that ’s only seeable in the X - ray part of the spectrum . credit rating : NASA / ESA / CXC .
