Google Maps Is Officially the Greatest App of All Time

After 31 day in the trenches of Gizmodo ’s March Madness bracket challenge , Google Maps has emerge victorious !

Where would we be without Google Maps ? Well , we ’d be wherever we are at any pass on moment , but we would n’t needfully fuck where we are . Google Maps is just a estimable app that has made life-time easier , and I ’m majestic of our readers for making such a responsible for decision .

I ’m not necessarily surprised that Google Maps number out on top , but the day - to - day choice our readers made during the tournament did keep me on my toes . When the angle bracket first kicked off , I predicted Vine would succeed . It created the templet for a sure type of humorous video and did n’t stay around long enough to do any real harm . I was abruptly wrong . Vine did n’t make it out of the Sweet 16 and I think it ’s plausibly a generational thing . Many of you likely never suffer a probability to even use Vine and other apps on the bracket that are discontinued did n’t make it far .

For me , the biggest crook along the way were Venmo defeating Twitter and Evernote taking down Spotify . Damn , you guys really detest Spotify . I was also aghast to see Instagram annihilate by WhatsApp . It is physically impossible to get an American to learn any news about WhatsApp , but I guess it has rooter out there .

My expectant takeaway from spending a month mentation about apps is that the App Store is pretty deadening these days . The top apps are n’t all that unlike than what you would ’ve watch years ago . The top paid game right now is Minecraft . The top spare app is Meta ’s Twitter ringer , Threads . And in universal , that ’s the story of the whole app store these days . It ’s mostly clones or iterative improvements on other apps . We ’ve hit “ peak app , ” and it ’s the last of story .

And that ’s why we ’ll never ask to run this contest again . There will be no challengers in the future . So , extolment to Google Maps , which now and forever will be the Greatest App of All Time .
