at long last get action figures emulating the gorgeous style of Batman : The Animated Series has been like a dream come true for fans of the cartoon – or it should have been , if they were n’t riddled by quality issues . But hooray ! DC have lastly addressed the trouble , and have announced plans to hopefully furbish up them .
If you ’re not conversant with the situation , the first waves of DC Collectibles ’ action mechanism frame based on Batman : The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures have come under a lot of fire from fans thanks to a plurality of problem with the long suit of the joints in the figure – made from a weaker credit card , the lilliputian joints used for articulation in figures ’ wrists and ankles have been prostrate to snapping off the bit you test to move them . It ’s especially been a job for the Batman figure : the top lumbering , petite - footed Bats is close to Timm ’s classic style , but has literally been snapping his own ankles under the pressure of his Brobdingnagian chest of drawers and upper body . Yeeowch . It ’s backbreaking enough to get the figures to stand thanks to the belittled legs that are a trademark of Bruce Timm ’s designs , but the breakages have been an understandably sore point for customer – especially when each shape costs $ 25 .
But here ’s the good news . In a late fan Q&A , the company tackle the issue and announced that going frontwards , the animated figure series would use – incoming fancy plastic names by the way – polyoxymethelene in their smaller articulation rather than polycarbonate . Not only is polyoxymethelene a strong material that should see the amount of breaking to a great extent reduced , it can also be molded in colour , rather than has a exonerated joint that has to be painted . So not only are the joint less likely to break the moment you disturb them , it also means that they ’re less likely to be stiffened up from being painted to blend in with the relief of the figure ( trust me , you start caring about slow shit like that when you bribe action figure ):
Starting with most Cartesian product in 2015 , we are elevate to POM ( aka polyoxymethylene ) for those joints previously made in polycarbonate . This is a potent plastic that allows it to be mildew in a color instead of readable . We have heard from our fans loud and clear that this is the number one issue for our action figures .
We will go along to use PVC ( aka polyvinyl chloride ) for the larger size joints ( such as elbows and human knee ) , ABS ( acrylonitrile butadiene styrene ) for harder plastics and on a case by case footing , we will be thicken the sizing of very low joints . This may affect some of the esthetic look of the modest Batman alive case but we feel the balance between look and quality will be appropriate .
The bad news program ? It means it ’s plump to take a little while before the currently announced figures – includingAnimated Series Batman , and New Adventures Batgirl – will murder shelves , to take into account the new tooling and QA measures . The wave featuring The Joker , Robin and Man Bat has been push to March , with the next waves coming in May and July , with Poison Ivy ( who , as you’re able to see above , has really small articulation ) fight back to the last wave especially so DC can check she does n’t break into a billion pieces the instant you mistily look in her general direction .
They also mention that the thickset joint sizes may impact on the aesthetics of the enliven series figures , but honestly , as amazing as it was for DC to so faithfully accommodate the style of the cartoon into the toy , I ’ll take a slightly less esthetically pleasing Batman toy to one with a taste with snapping his own ankles with his weight .
