Last week , the joyous announcement that 20th Animation and Hulu werereviving Futuramafor an eighth time of year was almost straight off marred by the find that voice actorJohn DiMaggio , who played the iconic fiber of Bender on the series , was suspiciously absentfrom the inclination of the show ’s returning cast . Now DiMaggio has issued a command clarifying why he has n’t come aboard the new serial , but that he ’s still “ hoping for the best . ”
DiMaggio releasedhis messagein full on Twitter last night andas was earlier describe , DiMaggio ’s hold - out is n’t about believing he deserves to be paid more than his fellow voice actors , but that they all deserve to be paid more for their work on the immensely democratic , constantly resurrected liven up series . Here it is , verbatim :
“ I ’ve been thinking about everything going on these retiring months , and just to be clear I do n’t suppose that only I merit to be paid more . I think the entire cast does . Negotiations are a natural part of act upon in show business . Everyone has a different strategy & different boundaries . Their ‘ Leontyne Price . ’ Some take over offer , some hold their ground . Bender is part of my soul & nothing about this is meant to be awless to the fans or my Futurama folk . It ’s about ego - respect . And aboveboard , being tired of an industry that ’s become far too corporate and takes reward of artist ’s clip & talent . see , I wish I could give you every detail so you would understand , but it ’s not my place . Thanks again for the dearest everyone . Still hop for the best . In the meantime I ’ll be in New Orleans shooting consultation With A lamia for AMC — and very grateful to be ! Thanks … ”

I ’m assume there have been some Futurama lover who ’ve been hounding DiMaggio to suck up Hulu ’s pass to get their devouring mitts on new episodes , but I ’m glad the phonation actor is stay to his guns . I feel fabulously confident that whatever 20th Animation and Hulu are paying the stars who have already sign contract , like Fry ’s Billy West and Leela ’s Katey Sagal , it ’s less than they merit . I am also fully sure-footed that whatever DiMaggio ’s ask for , twentieth Animation and Hulu ’s parent company Disney can pay for it without breaking the bank — and could even pay West , Sagal , and the others the money they merit without noticeably dangle the level of gold and jewel in the Scrooge - similar bank vault of gold coins I assume Disney keeps its monolithic net income in .
If 20th Animation and Hulu do n’t decide to pay DiMaggio now , they ’re still give way to give for it afterward , because some fans will obtain a unexampled Bender too jarring to enjoy the show , and other fans wo n’t gravel tick out a DiMaggio - less Futurama at all . As I enjoin before , recasting Bender would be like recasting Homer on The Mrs. Simpson — both voice actors ’ performances are so idiosyncratic and integral to their shows that they would feel wrong without them .
