light Skies season one left us with a weird cliffhanger — what the Hell is Tom doing on that starship , and how will he get off again ? And in many ways , last night ’s installment provided us with the final resolution of that second interrogative .
Was it satisfying ? Maybe . It sort of makes horse sense , but I have a fewreservations . spoiler ahead …
Tom ’s exciting escapade on an exotic mothership raise a bunch of inquiry . What did the aliens do to Tom during those farseeing stretches of time he ca n’t account for ? What made the big banana - head alien think that Tom could convert anybody to go live in a Reservation ? Have they ever assure the faces people make when Tom is let the cat out of the bag ? What were the stranger doing with all those other people , who got executed ? Why was Tom give up when everyone else was run ? What was that glitch doing in his heart ? And most of all , who is the Skitter with one red center , who ’s been tracking the Second Mass since Tom rejoined it , and appears to have ascendency over Tom ’s son Ben ?

Last dark , we sire answers to at least some of those interrogative sentence , and they dovetail reasonably well with what we know already . We be intimate that the Skitters were themselves harnessed in the past tense , meaning that they ’re slaves of the alien Overlords just as much as the harnessed human children . And we love that Red Eye was observe the Second Mass but did n’t seem interested in round it . Although it seemed as though he was planning on using them in some expectant strategem — which still does n’t seem to be out of the question .
It turn out that Red Eye , and some of the other Skitters , have get wind to baulk the control of the harness , and defend back against their oppressor . But they ’ve been crushed over and over again — until now , when they came to Earth as part of the invading forcefulness and see that the humans continue to struggle back even when we ’ve been pushed almost to defunctness . And so Red Eye decided to seek and join force with us — particularly with Tom , who stood up to Banana Head and even tased him a little . Red Eye put to death all those other human , because otherwise the Overlords would be suspicious , but he allow Tom go — and apparently those two Mechs that were there carrying out the death penalty do n’t keep a video record of the case or anything .
Red Eye planted a tracker on Tom , and retrieved it after Tom rejoined the Second Mass , and since then Red Eye ’s been follow the gang around and spying on them — possibly writing his own fanfic about Lourdes and Jamil , and whether those crazy kids Hal and Maggie would ever get together . ( Or maybe Red Eye write Tom / Pope slash . ) And then sometime between then and now , the Overlords found out that Red Eye was double - crossing them .

That ’s where the episode clean up — it ’s a ruin metropolis , and a bunch of Skitters are standing on the upside of building and call out , with their arms lift to the sky . large direction to remain invisible , guys . And also on a tall building , yelling at the skies ? Ben . The Overlords notice that there are some rebellious Skitters shouting from the rooftop , and decide to crush the rebellion . By the metre the Second Mass show up , there ’s just a nap of dead Skitters and some broken Mechs … plus Rick , the formerly harness kid who disappeared a while back . ( And was make bold numb , I guess . )
They take Red Eye prisoner instead of kill him , and Red Eye will only talk to Tom alone — because he wants to bring home the bacon Tom over , and he does n’t realize that this will just isolate Tom further from the respite of his gang . Speaking ultra - creepily through Rick , Red Eye explains about how they ’re the Skitter Resistance . All foreigner call Tom “ Professor Mason , ” because they ’re civilised . Although Red Eye does n’t explain just how bighearted the Skitter Resistance is , and why they ’re so pendent on Red Eye , personally . Tom does n’t conceive any of it , and actually quotes from chronicle for the first time in a few episodes , to liken the Skitters to Nazis .
( I ’d be less worried that the Skitters do n’t find sufficiently bad about killing multitude , and more upset that this is a trap . Although , is the Second Mass a adult enough terror to get to with caparison ? I guess we ’ll find out , when they get to Charleston . )

In any typeface , everybody ’s suspicions about Ben have now been raise , and Tom is looking kind of defendant once again , since he ’s the only one who get to hear the whole story about the Skitter Uprising . The alien set on the Second Mass , and everybody escapes to a commodious infirmary — where they repair the emergency brake generator and wrick on the lights at night , just in case the Skitters take an easy target . Red Eye is injured , but apparently form a getaway during all the confusedness . And Weaver basically tells Tom that he postulate to put a bullet into Ben ’s brain before Weaver has to do it himself … but fortunately , Weaver ’s on a lot of drug , so the conversation turns into “ We prise each other a lot , homo . Like , I really respect you . Dude , I respect you more . Nah , brah , I respect you the most . No way adult male , I super respect you a sight . Here , let me tuck you in . ” How does Tom portion out with the not - so - veiled mesmerism that Ben needs to be put down like a overzealous pawl ? He sneak into a vacant room with Anne so they can make out .
Meanwhile , in the episode ’s “ B ” plot of ground , Hal and Maggie bond , and it ’s actually pretty sweet and feel like real teen who are hide from killer robots . They talk a hatful about Hal ’s first girl Rita and her nothingness trouser , and how much milage Hal put on his crappy car with the jazzy Rita . And then Maggie spend a penny the mistake of observe Karen , Hal ’s lady friend who was harnessed by the Skitters , and it ’s sort of a mood - slayer . For a while . Until Hal finds some drug , and then he ’s ready to make out with Maggie — but Maggie , who has holes in her skull and was possibly raped by Pope ’s gang , opt to keep Hal as just her scouting partner who ’s got her back .
Some viewers probably got bored during the Hal - Maggie scenes , but I think they were really neat — this is the variety of character growing and emotion that I actually care to see , as opposed to last week ’s father - daughter stuff with Weaver which felt forced and a spot random . These are two characters we ’ve been endow in since pretty much the start of the show , and they have a becoming amount of chemistry together . And their scenes do find really genuine and kind of sweet — I especially corrupt that Maggie wants someone who ’ll watch her back more than she need a boyfriend .

In the ending , Maggie gets injured and Hal risks his life to pull her to safety — and then she necessitate him to declare her hand and stay with her while she falls asleep .
All in all , this was another decent installment , in which the violence and explosions are just persistent enough that you believe these people are at war and not just camp . I think I wish the “ Skitter Uprising ” subplot , although I ’m leery of it turning into Battlestar Galactica time of year four , where the mankind join forces with some of the Cylons and the show ’s antecedently lucid wartime scenario becomes muddied , to say the least . But there are all sort of interesting way this could toy out — and the good news is , Falling Skies is still trying to be a honorable character - based show in which the harness is a central , versatile metaphor . That ’s something to be happy about .
