I was given my first computer in 1994 , when I was 5 - years - old . It was an original Macintosh Classic — the first Apple Macintosh to betray for under $ 1,000 — which my parent bought shortly after its release in 1990 and retired to my bedroom four years later , when they come home one day with a fresh figurer , their second , an updated Apple role model , purchased from wherever multitude bought Macs in 1994 .
My Mac Classic sat beside my seam , had a 9 - column inch black and white CRT display with 512 x 342 pixel resolution , a built - in SuperDrive 3.5 in floppy disk driving , 1 megabyte RAM , and a 3.6 volt lithium battery . It press 16 pound . On it I play a potpourri of game , the most memorable of which was5 A Day Adventures , an educational estimator plot that teaches young child the importance of eating 5 to 9 fruit or vegetables a day . It was designed by the Dole Food Company ( in coaction with the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior ) and had total bundled with our raw 1994 Mac .
The game featured tattle and rapping animated fruits and vegetables , meant to teach shaver at a 3rd class story how they are grow , their nutritionary economic value and best cooking method . I thought it was just about the coolest thing I ’d ever seen , in all my 5 years of life . My parents told me that the person who sold them their new computing machine said we ’d one day be ableto watch TV on our computers ; this , to me , seemed an impossible legerdemain .

I tell you this , because a friend of mine recently posted to Facebook a still look-alike ( pictured above ) from a home moving picture remove the day she used her first computer for the first time , too .

I remember before I make that data processor I used to beg my mom to take me to Best Buy , where I would play on the sample computers for hours . She would literally have to drag me out of the store . This was the Clarence Day she finally undermine .
