It ’s been awhile since there ’s beenan updateon Disney ’s plannedSplashremake , and amid allthe big studio apartment tidings today , there ’s been some adhesive friction on the sea front .
Led byJillian Bell(Godmothered ) , the remake was first announce back in 2016 as a gender - swapped , modern reimagining of Ron Howard ’s 1984 romantic clowning . In the original report , Bell was set to bet an update version ofTom Hanks ’ fiber , while the mermaid originated by Daryl Hannah would be played by Channing Tatum . Today , Deadline reportedthat the latest draft of the project will be written by Sarah Rothschild , who lately scribed Sleepover for Netflix ; Rothschild takes over from Marja - Lewis Ryan , who wrote an early draft of the script . Howard and his spouse Brian Grazer are position to make a project that no dubiousness has sentimental meaning for them : the original picture show ’s success go to the creation of their company Imagine in 1985 .
It ’s authoritative to note that while Bell ’s name was note in today ’s update , Tatum ’s was not . really , we should have had this picture yesterday — and though it ’s unclear if Tatum is still attached , with Magic Mike finish before long , we ’d have zero remonstrance to him replace his rip - away pants with a merman bum .
