The household of Pennsylvania couple Zac and Brittney Wolfe is about to get much bigger after their years of attempts at conception are now paying off, according to multiple outlets.
“All of a sudden, things got crazy,” Brittney said in an interview withInsider, published on Wednesday. “It wasn’t planned, but Charlie’s adoption and the pregnancy happened at once.”
In July 2011, Zac was involved in a car accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury,The Courier Expressreported. He and Brittney had been friends since college, but after the accident, their relationship blossomed, the couple said on theirwebsite. They got engaged in 2013 in Pittsburgh and married two years later. Before their wedding, they purchased a home together in St. Marys, Pennsylvania.
Then Zac and Brittney wanted to start a family.
“After a year of trying to conceive without success, we decided to seek medical advice to determine if either of us had an issue,” Zac said, perThe Courier Express. ”We were nervous, due to my injury, and were unsure if we would be able to have a child naturally. After we were both cleared and underwent many tests everything came back good.”
The couple experienced fertility issues for the next five years and spent almost $100,000 on intrauterine insemination and IVF treatments that turned out unsuccessful, Insider reported. So the Wolfes decided to go through the adoption route and started a website with the hopes of connecting with an expectant mother.

“We have both always dreamed of having a big family and infertility made us realize that it isn’t about HOW we become parents that matters to us — it is about parenthood itself — and that steered us in the direction of adoption as our path to parenthood and we couldn’t be more excited to begin our journey,” the couple wrote on their site.

Zac and Brittney were present at the birth of the child who would become their daughter, Charlie Ann, on July 27 of this year. “She is such a cutie and stole our hearts the second she was born,” the couple wrote.
The Wolfes' first attempt at pregnancy during an embryo transfer turned out unsuccessful, per Insider. Then in April of this year, the couple tried again. This time, the embryos — two that were frozen in 2021 and another from 2011 — were successfully implanted. An ultrasound technician told Zac and Brittney that they were expecting triplets. The couple was shocked upon hearing the news since Charlie’s adoption had moved forward around that same time.
Brittney told Insider, “We were about to become a family of six.”
“As I have done over the past 12 years, you adapt — and overcome all challenges,” Zac, who uses a wheelchair, said, perThe Courier Express. “If there is a will, there is a way.”
After their experiences with adoption, particularly with Charlie, the Wolfes left a message on their site for readers: “To those considering adoption, we encourage you to explore this path with an open heart and an open mind. There is an unbreakable bond waiting to be formed, and [there is] a child out there who craves the love and stability that only a family can provide.”
