endemic hunter in the Canadian soil of Nunavut have reported unexplained sounds that seem to be coming from the glacial seafloor . These sound , distinguish as “ pings , ” “ hums , ” and “ beeps , ” have attracted the care of Canada ’s Department of National Defense , which dispatched a planer to investigate .
The strange phone were take heed throughout the summer in Fury and Helca Strait , which is about 75 miles ( 120 km ) northwest of the crossroads of Igloolik . A governing functionary from the region enunciate the noise was “ emanate from the seafloor , ” and that it was happening in a major hunting area called a polynya — an area of open water surrounded by ice where ocean mammalian care to congregate . But this summer , “ hardly any ” animals look , prompting hunch — and a likely link .
autochthonic huntsman are n’t the only one who have get a line the strait . Reports also came in from Panama who navigated a secret yacht through the sphere , and a number of other Nunavut residents say they ’ve also heard the sounds . Whatever it is , this audio can apparently be heard through the Hull of boats .

There are no shortage of hypothesis . One hypnotism is that Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation — which antecedently impart sonar surveys in the area — is back to its onetime tricks . But the company say it has not conducted any survey nearby , nor does it have any equipment in the water supply . Another hypothesis is that the sound are being produced by construction , blasting , or hydrography . But Nunavut officials say no territorial permits have been emerge for such work . One of the more weirder theories point the digit at Greenpeace , along with the charge that the environmental group is advisedly generating the phone to fright wildlife away from the fertile hunt reason . Greenpeace denies the charge .
The Canadian Department of National DefensetoldCBC News that it has been made aware of the strange noises , and that “ the Canadian Armed Forces are taking the appropriate steps to actively look into the situation . ” Yesterday , a Canadian military surveillance planechecked out the orbit from above .
“ The melodic line work party do various multi - sensor searches in the country , including an acoustical hunting for 1.5 hours , without find any acoustic anomalies , ” noted the CDND in a statement . “ The gang did not detect any surface or subsurface contact . The crew did watch two pods of whales and six walruses in the area of interest . ”

The CDND allege submarine have not been ruled out as the source , but considered it improbable . Which seems like a strange thing to saygiven recent Russian impingement in various Arctic region .
So while theories burst , nothing has been proven yet . We ’ll be watching this write up should some novel information emerge .
