When it was announced that the DC Extended Universe ’s follow - up to Man of Steel would be titledBatman v dot : Dawn of Justice , people hadquite a jest . After all , it sounded like Batman was conk to process Superman , presumably for all the manslaughter by depraved apathy he put at the end ofhis debut picture show . However , it turns out the flick ’s claim could have been much , much more preposterous .
Speaking at Justice Con this retiring weekend ( viaCollider ) , director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio revealed that the reason Batman is “ v ” Superman as opposed to “ versus ” Superman is because they did n’t want it to sound like some lame “ versus ” movie , which is funny because it is absolutely and unequivocally a “ versus ” movie . But that ’s apparently not the title they really desire .
“ The whole ‘ v ’ instead of ‘ versus , ’ it was like this crazy talks , ” Snyder suppose at the con . “ I was like , ‘ Guys , ca n’t we just do something like Son of Sun and Knight of Night , or something that ’s a small act more poetic ? ’ ”

Hey, remember this terrible scene from Batman v Superman? Good times.Image: Warner Bros.
On one hired hand , Son of Sun and Knight of Night is pretty clever since Superman derives his office from Earth ’s yellow sunshine , and Batman is the ultimate night person . On the other hand , this is a frightening , hoity - toity title for a movie starring two of the most pop superheroes in the earthly concern whose name are all important to gaining mass audiences ’ attention and interest .
If nothing else , it ’s a good reminder thatit ’s really finethat Zack Snyder is no longer in charge of the DC cinematic cosmos . Yes , his stinger of Justice Leaguewas infinitely betterthan the theatrical release , but his visionfor these superheroes has always been prohibitively pornographic , over serious , and self - aggrandizing .
