Way too many affair were going on in last night ’s Arrow — and none of them were really related to to the ongoing arc of this current season . gratefully , one of the matter that did happen was so soundly enjoyable and fun that it made the maelstrom of too many thing vanish for a few , brilliant minutes .
I ’ve been really enjoying the start of Arrow ’s fifth season — in fact , it ’s kind of noteworthy at how well the show has deal tobalance a return to its original rootswhile still channel the confidence and prance of a show that ’s into its fifth year of storytelling . But at the same clock time , for all the fun I ’m having , I ’m starting to get a little helpless as to what this time of year is plump to be all about — because in an attempt to win back disillusioned fans , the show is firing a kitchen - sinkhole - shape burst of thaumaturgy arrows in our general direction .

This is way too much to handle effectively in 40 instant of TV , and a draw of the screw thread suffered for it — particularly Thea ’s electric discharge with the frosty journalist and Felicity ’s Ragman conflict . The show ’s got a pretty big chief cast of characters at the moment , so it feels like the team is taste to give each part of it a becoming focus , but it lead to last nighttime ’s episode tactual sensation forced in its endeavour to draw these disparate threads together ( peculiarly receive the flashbacks so link to the root word of the modern Clarence Shepard Day Jr. stuff , too ) .
Arrow came very close to fall apart last dark but rushing the squad drama allowed it to relieve itself with one bright bit : Team Arrow , in uniform , going out to beat out the shit out of Sampson and his process .

Just face at this simple , but delicious sequence . Ollie ’s hook - arrow - punch - thing like he ’s pretending to be Scorpio from Mortal Kombat is great , but the star of the show is Curtis . The show has been tease his translation into Mr. Terrific essentially ever since he first show up , but actually puzzle to see it find at last is delightful . The masquerade party is great . He ’s still wonderfully dorky , even as he grows in confidence in himself . HISJACKET SAYS “ fairish PLAY”AND EVELYN CALLED HIM “ MR . FAIR PLAY ” , GODDAMMIT .
More of this , less kitchen sink , please Arrow . I think I can trust you enough at this point .
Assorted Musings
I do not follow wrestling at all , but some cursory googling occupy me in on the fact that this episode ’s guest star , Corey Rhodes , was a former WWE hotshot who ’s had some onscreen / offscreen wrestle - beef with Stephen Amell , and this was some sort of culmination of that . That ’s fairly silly and brilliant , but you ’d think if this was about their wrestling stuff , they ’d in reality have been on screen together more than they were .
Speaking of hand-to-hand struggle though , I loved that the show work in Terry Sloane — the original Mr. Terrific — as a childhood wrestling hoagy of Curtis ’ . endearing touch .
I can not overdraw how amazing it is , even in 2016 with the likes of Supergirl and The Flash doing absurdly camp comic clobber on TV , that Curtis ’ Mr. Terrific jacket had “ fairish caper ” stitched on the arms . These are apparently prototype costume for the new Team Arrow , but I hope that does n’t intend he loses the jacket . Just give him some T - spheres and it ’ll be unadulterated .
