Party Down , a shortly - lived Starz series about struggling actor work for a catering caller — was and remains one of the best comedy ever to grace our TVs , and yet it was only two sweet season long . But now you have an excuse toCelebrate Ricky Sarguleshall over again , because the serial haslanded on Hulu Plus .
You know , the principle of “ the good die vernal ” can enforce to television receiver as it does to citizenry in a weird mode . Party Down is totally one of those shows . Perfect , uproarious , and eldritch in a before its time kind of way of life . The cast is just incredible , too — Party Down starred a couple of comedic OGs like Megan Mullally and Martin Starr , as well as a few histrion like Adam Scott and Jane Lynch before they bollix up up in other primetime sitcoms .
We ca n’t peach about Party Down without talking about the perfectly random cameo either , like Steve Guttenberg , Patrick Duffy , and Rick Fox , to name a few . All that place in laughable catering situations staff by a ragtag dance band of screw - ups create some funniness magic . There ’s the one where they exercise aporn awards after company , orSteve Guttenberg ’s natal day partythat turn out not to be a natal day party at all , or the one where theyall get high on the job . These episodes are like my figurative children in that I can not pick a favorite .
The internet has a tendency to rush to bring back great shows like Party Down that were cancelled before their time . calculate at Arrested Development or Veronica Mars . But I cogitate we should keep it as a pristine hermetically sealed funniness that unfortunately only survive two seasons — two great season , and that ’s better than letting a show go on too long , ultimately take itself in the invertebrate foot . You ’ve seen it happen with infinite show . But Party Down has n’t function that route , and it ’s all the more ground to revisit its Greco-Roman two seasons in all their unspoiled glory . [ Hulu ]
