Our first proper facial expression at the Inhumans TV show is here , and while the trailer is … rough , it does give us our first good look at some of the superfluous characters and wider Inhuman society we can expect to see in Marvel ’s late TV show . Here ’s all the hints we spotted !
The poke starts out on the moon — which is n’t that surprising in the vast lore of the Inhumans , as their parochial high society has at time been locate on what ’s referred to in the comics as the “ aristocratic expanse of the Moon . ” They can move about so much because their home , the city - nation of Attilan , is actually a float city that , in decades of comic , has been everywhere from the moon , to the Himalayas , to even above the Hudson river .
Meanwhile , Maximus ( Misfits and Game of Thrones ’ Iwan Rheon , skylark a questionable accent ) tells his blood brother Blackagar Boltagon , a.k.a . Black Bolt ( Anson Mount ) “ preferably or later , the human beings are going to observe us up here . You should ’ve known this day was come . ” We ’ve bonk for a while that Maximus would be discontented with his Brother ’s principle , and ostensibly his insurance policy of isolation from world , thanks to thefirst teaser poke for the show . We also knew that a coup would see Black Bolt and the Royal crime syndicate ousted from Attilan , so it ’s no surprise that Maximus is leading the charge .
That tell , we do n’t really get to see much of Attilan itself in this trailer — it ’s got a very minimalistic aesthetic , judging by the confines of Black Bolt and Medusa ’s ( Serinda Swan ) quarters . But the trailer is all very closely focused on the Royal family who we get to see bear an uncomfortable dinner here . Counterclockwise around the tabular array , from the left : Gorgon ( Eme Ikwuakor ) , Black Bolt , Medusa , Crystal ( Isabelle Cornish ) , Maximus ( Iwan Rheon ) , and Karnak ( Ken Leung ) .
Maximus continues to drone on on : “ Are we supposed to fall out our King , and remain as still as he is ? ” , a not - so - subtle acknowledgement of the fact Black Bolt does n’t talk , due to his incredibly herculean sonic shout ability , which we get a bantam glance of later in the poke .
The grandness of the two figures in blank is n’t really pertain upon , but this is our first actual full body jibe of Gorgon that confirms the character does indeed have the hooved legs he has in the comic strip . The unconscious process of Terrigenesis — the exposure of people with Inhuman DNA to the Terrigen Mists — doesn’t just give people world power , but can lead to physical transformations too , like Gorgon ’s .
Maximus waver on with his ill-affected screed , as he is wo nt to do , demanding that the Inhumans leave the synodic month , going down to Earth and claim their “ true nursing home . ” He ’s right — the Inhumans are descended from former humans , who were experimented on by the Kree to create the first Inhumans million of year ago , so Earth is as much their habitation as it is humanity ’s . Little does Maximus know that there ’s plenty of Inhumans on Earth already , thanks to the events of Agents of SHIELD … which Inhumans will handily sidestep for now , asno crossover between the two serial publication is planned yet .
badly , Maximus does not exclude up . Here he is again , this metre mobilise the Inhuman populace rather than pestering his straightaway family . You ’ll find that these Inhumans all very much count like manifestly onetime unconstipated humankind — in the comics , it was not out of place for the great unwashed with Inhuman DNA but not fully transform to live in Attilan , before undergoing the process of Terrigenesis as almost a right hand of enactment . Not every Inhuman does go through Terrigenesis , however — Karnak is a prime deterrent example , as he just train himself to bea unadulterated and utter badassthrough sheer will alone .
After spending so much time talking about rotation , Maximus last decides to put his program into move , leading a coup against his brother and his fellow Royals . First we see Medusa constrained , despite the fact she could probably take down everyone in the way with her psychically - controlled hair world power …
Then some seemingly harmless Inhumans in farsighted grey-haired robe — presumably they ’re members of Karnak ’s order of priests and philosopher . At least , I ’m assuming that , because over this we hear Karnak implore Black Bolt to take Maximus ’ threats of revolution badly : “ Right or wrong , he ’s grave . ”
Next up on the takeover ’s tilt of “ masses to imprison ” is the Princess of the Royal family , Crystal , as she gets dragged away from Maximus in his throne . notice the lightning bolts cut up into the walls behind Maximus ’ can — they’re the intention that ’s appeared onBlack Bolt ’s comic book costumesince its first appearance back in 1965 , liberally used here as a motif for the Royal family .
Another interesting point to observe — the markings on the wall behind Crystal as she ’s drag away are moderately bleary , but seem to match up with the stylus of markings on the Kree city mapCoulson drew back in season two of Agents of SHIELD , as the show just start up to dunk itself into Inhuman traditional knowledge .
We head back to where we were for the start of the laggard , as Maximus makes his move against Black Bolt . He taunts his brother to apply his voice power to stop him , and is rightfully freaked the hell out when it looks like Black Bolt is about to : in the comics , Maximus ’ first exposure to Black Bolt ’s sonic scream power was so virile it literally drove him insane , impart him his nefarious sobriquet “ Maximus the Mad . ”
Too bad Lockjaw prove up to whisk Black Bolt aside before he can turn Maximus into itty bits . But hey , it ’s Lockjaw ! Beloved bow-wow of the Royal kinsfolk , Lockjaw is a click - esque creature who has the power of teleportation , have him very useful when you need to get as far aside from your unreliable brother . He ’s a lover favourite character sports fan have beeneager to seeever since the prospect of a springy - action Inhumans project has been blow around .
In the comics , he ’s also very good friends with Kamala Khan , the Inhuman teen better known as Ms. Marvel , who could one day appear in the show … although adjudicate by some of the responses to the preview , some fans might be less excited about that prospect now .
Lockjaw whisks a upset Black Bolt by to the middle of a Hawaii street — at least , according to the synopsis for the serial , it is meant to be Hawaii . It ’s tough to tell in this shot ( and a scrap easy on the premature side of the teleport impression ) but Lockjaw retains the lilliputian little tuning fork in his head from his comic book design .
And here ’s your first face at another member of the Royal family unit previously unobserved until now : Triton , Karnak ’s blood brother , who can breathe underwater and has enhance persuasiveness and speed . In the comic , he looks a bit more fishlike , but in the show , he sort of reckon likeJames Marsters ’ Piccolofrom the infamously fearsome Dragonball Evolution bouncy action motion-picture show .
The adult female he ’s take flight with is likely Ellen Woglom ’s part , created for the show specifically as a human position . We do n’t lie with her name yet , but she’sdescribed in casting materialsas an aerospace worker who is “ smart , intense , and focused — so focus that oftentimes , societal skill take a back seat . ” It appears this military action takes place on Earth rather than in Attilan — and considering we do n’t really see Triton on Attlian in this trailer , it ’s potential Triton actually already lives on Earth , make him a utile ally for the fleeing Royals .
This abbreviated present moment is likely go down before Maximus ’ coup d’etat , given the Royal kin is all together . Their front , plus the mysterious physical object being hauled in , and what appear to be both some average citizens and some of those priest from earlier , it ’s possible this might be a ceremonial occasion allowing people to under go Terrigenesis .
This , meanwhile , is probably after the coup . Are they mining Terrigen crystals ? Maybe part of Maximus ’ plan to direct Inhumanity to Earth is to unlock their powers first , necessitating more watch crystal .
Black Bolt does his good Tom Cruise run from Hawaii law — this time , he ’s out of his Attilan threads , so at some point he decide to go native in an attempt to blend in .
A snow flurry of action shots give us more expression at Triton on the running from some agressors , Karnak delightfully getting to mess hoi polloi up back on Attilan , Gorgon going substructure - first into the same guys who were chasing Triton presumptively meaning he cope with up with him at some point .
We also eventually get to see Gorgon ’s superpower in military action — as he pigeonhole one of his hooves to create a seismal wafture . Meanwhile , oh my god Maximus is still talking . This clip , he ’s rallying the masses , recite them that “ nothing can keep us from being free . ”
As Black Bolt ’s Hawaii PD friends catch up with him to give him a beatdown , we finally get to see a shard of his power . The reason Black Bolt stays silent in the comics ( there he ’s telepathic , but in the show he ’ll use sign nomenclature ) is because his transonic scream is one of the most potent major power in the Marvel universe . Saying a single Scripture can level street , so as you could see here , even a abbreviated moment of possess the wind knocked out of him can cause some moderately major devastation .
at last , the trailer realises that what we ’re really all here for is not Iwan Rheon ’s questionable accent or even the purple house themselves , who do very small other than stare disconcertingly or get captured here . So to celebrate , here ’s more Lockjaw calculate very adorable . It ’s easier to tell here that his tuning fork headstall is sadly not 100 % to the comedian : it ’s alternatively a face marking rather than a physical object stick out of his head . Who ’s a just son ? He ’s a good boy .
This was not a particularly strong first showing for Inhumans , specially afterless - than - rave reactionsto our first look at the main cast last month . Although we get a few new glimpse of the wider premise of the serial here , not many of those glance stir more confidence ( specially poor Triton ) .
And yet , there ’s still much more we ’ve yet to really see from this series — including somewhat much what happens when the residuum of the Royal house joins Black Bolt down in Hawaii . It ’s still early days , so hopefully we ’ll see some more exciting material ahead of Inhumans ’ premieres in IMAX theatre of operations September 1st , with the serial heading to ABC on September 29 .
