FYI – John here : My AIM , at the bottom of the page , is no longer superlinuxninja . For some crashing reason I ca n’t get logarithm - in to AIM using that screen name anymore and it wo n’t institutionalize me password change notifications and it ’s making me cry . The new Giz AIM will be johnbiggsny , which is much less ostentatious . Please upgrade your record .
James compose :
Last week and this weekend , AOL ‘ hackers ’ found a gob in the AOL name world cognitive process that allowed them to make any and all names on AOL , as well as take ANY AIM account that was n’t associated with an AOL account . Most AOLers first essay to get ‘ nerveless ’ screen names , then staff and national accounts , take after up by noted AIMs i.e. , from Gizmodo . That ’s most likely your problem as well . If it ’s any comfort , it will likely be suspended presently .

AOL has been in the physical process of convert all of their intragroup keywords
over from their proprietary format , to web based Thomas Nelson Page . One of these
was the page to make additional filmdom names under an account .

Keyword : Names or names.aol.com . lumber in with a sea captain screen name
you could create a new name that was n’t on the system , which take you
to a second step requiring more entropy . The screen name was

hive away in the seed of the page , but was n’t verify after footstep two .
hacker would save the Sir Frederick Handley Page locally , change the screen name to
whatever they like , and then go to the next step , thus creating the

name on AOL . Then they ’d shift the AIM password and voila .
The AOL ‘ hack on ’ scene is very active , with everyone trying to get
the ‘ coolest ’ screen name . There ’s really no countermeasure when

these holes are found , other than to lay off using AIM .
