As the Ebola outbreak continue to spread and grow , what can we learn from looking at the history of the disease ’s spread ?

John Nelson over at UXBlogput together this chart showing how Ebola outbreakshave happen since the first recognize one , almost 30 years ago . As the graphical shows , we see outbreaks of the disease coming up fair systematically since 1976 , when it was first identify , but this latest one has some authoritative differences .

The first thing that stands out about the current outbreak is that it is distinctly far and away the declamatory one we ’ve seen . This up-to-the-minute outbreak , however , is notable not just in its size ( which is still growing ) , but also in its scope , with multiple land site of contagion popping up . As Nelson told io9 :
One of most alarming aspects of the current outbreak is how distributed it is , spanning several state . In looking at the CDC chronology , border hopping was rare and then only in village near the border , or via an infected research worker travelling place . I am not an epidemiologist , I just make maps and pictures of thing , that ’s all . And I made this graphic mostly so I could picture the personnel casualty of people in a direction that was even a petty more palpable than a identification number . But see more about the magnitudinal difference between this and past incidents – specially seeing the count climbing through even the course of making the graphic- this time around is different . And the reply of aid workers fighting the outbreak seems peculiarly pressing . I let in a couple links in the graphic to boost folks to learn more about what those teams are working on and what help they might need .
